Watch Out for the Democrats - Sept 4

Post by dan_s »

I have voted for Democrats in the past and I will in the future if they have sound policy ideas. Today, the party is controlled by Far Left Wackos. All of the top Democrat candidates for president are for VERY DANGEROUS energy policy, unless you hope for a lower quality of living. Read this. - Dan

Dear IPAA Member:

Tonight, 10 Democratic presidential candidates will spend seven hours talking about climate issues, and each is expected to again call for an end to fossil fuel production and use. Most will back the Green New Deal, push for a ban on hydraulic fracturing and endorse an end to leasing on federal lands. Some have even called for criminal charges against oil, gas and coal executives.

These attacks on our industry are not only impractical, but also reckless. They are political theater with real-world implications. The advancements of American natural gas and oil production has been a bright spot in our nation’s economy and national security. It has led to reduced emissions and cleaner air. Through exports, we have also provided the world with greater energy stability.

The truth is that banning natural gas or oil production is simply dangerous. Consider New York. Toby Mack of the Energy Equipment & Infrastructure Alliance recently reminded me that Governor Cuomo’s anti-gas policies have prevented new pipelines into the state – effectively curtailing natural gas delivery to not only New York residents, but also New England.

A recent op-ed in the New York Daily News makes the case against Cuomo’s anti-gas policies: “As is now happening in New York, there are moratoriums on new natural gas hookups throughout Massachusetts due to supply constraints from Cuomo's blockade.”
You can read the full op-ed here: https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny- ... story.html

Energy in Depth, the industry’s rapid response and research coalition, has also reported extensively on the real-world consequences of New York’s ban on natural gas pipelines.

Cuomo’s 2014 fracking ban wiped out 191,841 job opportunities – a workforce larger than the entire city of Syracuse – and stunted GDP growth, according to a report by the Global Energy Institute. In 2017 alone, New York denied plans for two major gas pipelines on unfounded environmental grounds.

Despite the abundance of natural gas in the Northeast from the Marcellus and Utica shales, New Yorkers and their New England neighbors pay some of the highest natural gas and electricity prices in the country, due to a shortage in pipeline infrastructure.

Thanks to years of “Keep it in the Ground” protests, lawsuits, and legislative efforts, New York residents paid nearly 50 percent more than the national average for their electricity in 2018.
