Eagle Ford natural gas production down BIG

Post by dan_s »

During the boom (2012 to 2014) the Eagle Ford lead the nation in natural gas production growth. Upstream companies were drilling for oil, but those high rate horizontal wells in the Eagle Ford produce a lot of "associated gas" that is rich in NGLs. Since peaking at over 7 Bcfpd in late 2014, Eagle Ford gas production declined 1.5 Bcfpd, the largest decline in the nation. Eagle Ford gas production is starting to stabilize, but there aren't enough rigs working in South Texas to increase production back to 7 Bcfpd anytime soon.

One of the biggest enablers of U.S. natural gas production growth over the next several years will be the emerging export demand along the Texas Gulf Coast and across the border in Mexico.

Recipe for higher gas prices is Lower Production + Increasing Demand.
