More "helicopter money" from Team Biden

Post by dan_s »

Soaring gas prices lead White House aides back to brainstorming. Washington Post.
Senior White House aides have in recent days explored new ideas for responding to high gas prices and looked again at some that they had previously discarded, desperate to show that the administration is trying to address voter frustration about rising costs at the pump. Biden officials are taking a second look at whether the federal government could send rebate cards out to millions of American drivers to help them pay at gas stations — an idea they examined months ago before ruling it out. < Wouldn't it be easier and less expensive to just pay the gasoline retailers directly to cut prices at the pump? Oh, they just want to buy more votes with a stunt like this.

Biden’s begging oil companies to produce — while wanting to bankrupt them. New York Post. Opinion.
Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday Joe Biden was running for president promising that he would practically hit energy companies over the head with a two-by-four if they kept producing so much “dirty” gas and oil? His energy plan was to drive oil and gas out of the market by switching to solar, wind and other “green energy.” He even nominated a federal regulator who said she wanted to “bankrupt the oil companies.” But this week he’s saying he’ll practically call in the army and Marines and invade the executive offices of “Big Oil” if they don’t start producing more oil and gas. Well, which is it, Mr. President? Do you want more or less oil?

U.S. energy chief to discuss record pump prices with refiners next week. Reuters.
U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm called an emergency meeting with refining executives for next week, a department spokesperson said on Thursday, as tensions between the Biden administration and Big Oil mount over soaring gasoline prices. The planned talks come as President Joe Biden, under pressure over record gasoline prices with inflation a top issue for voters ahead of the hotly contested November elections, has demanded that oil refining companies explain why they are not putting more fuel on the market as they reap windfall profits.
