National Grid Shuts Off Natural Gas to 7,100: State of Emergency Declared, 1,000 Workers Deployed
“National Grid has suspended service to roughly 7,100 natural gas customers on Aquidneck Island - including 6,800 in Newport - while the company works to address an issue from its supplier that caused "low-pressure outages across Newport and Middletown,” announced the City of Newport on Monday evening.
By 10:45 p.m., Governor Gina Raimondo had issued a State of Emergency for residents impacted.
With temperatures at 8 degrees overnight, the gas shutoff if likely to wreak havoc to the plumbing in people's homes.
