Canadian taxes
Canadian taxes
I have noticed on my Fidelity account that there is a CRA of Canada and that there may be a withholding of 25% or some amount for dividends. how do you avoid the withholding taxes for these canadian companies in a taxable or non taxable account?
Re: Canadian taxes
They withhold 15% tax on taxable accounts, which you get back as a foreign tax credit when you file your tax return in the U.S.
They should not be withholding on shares held in an IRA.

Re: Canadian taxes
Apparently you need to file a form W-8. I will work on this next week and let you know what I find out.
