August 2 webinar: Meet the Petroleum Economist

Post by dan_s »

On August 2nd, Harry van Neck, who posts to the EPG Forum as “Petroleum Economist,” is going to join me on a webinar at 10AM CT. He is going to explain his methodology for ranking upstream oil & gas companies. < Register for the live event on the EPG website.

Harry has over 41 years of experience in the oil and gas industry; including as a Petroleum Economist for Shell and two other companies 1995 to 2020. He retired in 2021 but spends a lot of his time following ~80 American and Canadian energy companies, primarily upstream oil & gas companies.

EPG will soon be offering access to Harry’s reports as a new service. The first month will be free to all EPG members during the month of August. After the trial period EPG members can add the service for $250/year.

Harry’s methodology ranks upstream companies based on his estimate of Discounted Net Present Value of earnings per share over the next 25 years.
> His rankings reflect all critical company parameters such as proven & probable reserves, balance sheet strength, profitability and shareholder return (i.e. – dividends, stock buybacks).
> His rankings provide an indication of which upstream companies are more likely to perform better than others over time.
> His rankings do not provide a share price target. < That's my job.
> Harry follows most of the companies in our three model portfolios and we compare our forecast models on a regular basis.

EPG members that sign up for the new service will get:
> At least two updates per month of Harry’s rankings of the companies in his database.
> Ranking changes, share price changes
> Forecasted earnings per share, PE ratios, estimated shareholder yield over the next five years
> Discount rates used with an indication of underlying risk factors
> Summary of fundamental changes during the week
> Summary of Harry's high-ranking companies
> Access to Harry’s frequent notes with analysis of high-ranking companies reflecting recent events such as quarterly reports, acquisitions & divestitures, fundamental market changes, etc.
> A quarterly report with fundamental analysis of high-ranking companies.
> Access to summaries of the proven reserves and the Reserves Replacement Ratios (RRR) for all 80 companies that Harry follows.

I have been getting Harry's reports for several month and for me they are a wealth of information. His analysis is "technical", but Harry's one-page summaries of his highest ranked companies should be useful information to all EPG members.
