Copper: The "Energy Metal"

Post by dan_s »

The speaker at tomorrow's Houston Luncheon (9/17) will be Arun Lamba, an expert on the global copper market.

On May 21st copper prices spiked to a all-time high of $5.10/pound.

Trading Economics this morning:
Copper futures edged up toward $4.20 per pound, the highest in three weeks, supported by a weaker dollar amid expectations of a US Federal Reserve interest rate cut this week. A softer dollar makes metals cheaper for holders of other currencies. Markets have fully priced in a 25-bps rate cut by the Federal Reserve on Wednesday, with growing speculation of a 50-bps move. A rate cut would bolster economic growth, increase metals demand, and pressure the dollar. However, recent data from China showed industrial output, retail sales, and fixed asset investments missed forecasts in August, raising concerns about demand from the top metals consumer. Additionally, China's urban unemployment rose to a six-month high, and home prices fell at the fastest pace in nine years.

Arun Lamba, VP of Business Development for Solaris Resources made a good presentation at our luncheon on Tuesday.

Solaris Resources (NYSE: SLSR and SLS.TO) closed today at $3.1850Cdn up 0.1150 (+3.7520%)

First Call's Price Target is $12.46Cdn, which equates to approximately $9.22US. < In the last 90 days, four respected analysts have submitted new price targets to TipRanks that range from $6.75Cdn to $14.00Cdn.

SLSR is what I call a "Good Story Stock". If the story plays out, there is a lot of upside.
> They definitely have a BIG copper discovery in Ecuador at their Warintza Project. Proven by extensive drilling programs.
> The Augusta Group has a solid track record of success in building up four previous mining companies and selling them for returns of 1,900%, 3,300%, 6,100% and 12,960% (Ventana Gold Corp. that sold for $1.6Cdn Billion in 2011) < Richard Warke, the Company's Executive Chairman was in on three of these four previous deals.
> Management has invested over $200Cdn million in the Company with 45% of the equity.
> BlackRock owns 9% of the equity.
> Several milestones that are potential catalysts for the share price: This year's drilling program should prove up more recoverable reserves, EIA Technical Approval in 1H 2025 should begin the sale process with goal to sell Warintza by Q1 2026.
> Solaris has over $80Cdn million of cash, which should fund them through mid-2026.
> If Solaris gets an acceptable bid for Warintza (over $8/share), they plan to spin-out over a dozen exploration assets into a new public company with shares of NewCo going to existing shareholders in SLSR.
> If Solaris does not get an acceptable bid, they plan to form a joint venture with a large-cap mining company to move forward with mine development.
> Copper prices should go up in lock step with the Fed interest rate cuts.

The slides that Arun Lamba spoke from today will be available on the EPG website later today.
