Hurricane Harvey Update - Wed 8/30 at 5PM

Post by dan_s »

I talked to The Hess Club manager, Jennifer, today. She said the Hess Club is fine. Her home and family are safe. Several staff members did get water in their homes.

Dallas: I talked to Sharlonda Dowee, the catering manager at the Doubletree Hotel. Her aunt (age 67) lives in Houston. Her aunt died last night from a heart attack while she was being rescued as water was rising in her home. Sharlonda has been working with us for three years on our Dallas luncheons.

Richmond, Texas is underwater and getting worse. Most of it is flooded and the Brazos River has two or three feet to go before it crests. Our church is in Richmond. Susan & I work in the pre-school area each Sunday. Half of the kids in my 4-5 year old class live in Richmond.

Beaumont, Texas near the Texas/Louisiana border has received 26 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The previous record was 12 inches.

Up to 20% of U.S refining capacity is now shut down. Keep your gas tanks full as this may result in gasoline and diesel shortages.

Sabrina hopes to return to her home tomorrow.

Susan & I are blessed to live in a beautiful neighborhood that is well protected by levees. The Brazos River is expected to crest at 56 feet on Thursday evening. If the levees hold, we should be safe and sound.

Count your blessings! You may have lost a few dollars in the stock market because of low oil prices. Compared to showing up at a shelter with nothing but your wet clothing it is no big deal.

Houston, South Texas and South Louisiana are all going to need a lot of help. We are going to focus on helping Richmond. Donate to a charity.
