Antero's Clearwater Facility: setting environmental standards for oil and gas industry. WV News.

Antero Resources’ Clearwater Facility in Doddridge County, which cleans fracking water so it can safely be reused, is the first of its kind in the oil and gas industry. Al Schopp, Antero’s chief administrative officer and regional senior vice president, said the $300 million plant is an attempt to reduce the ecological footprint of the company’s operations in the region. “The primary reason for this (project) is the long-term environmental impact of recycling the water,” Schopp said. “We’ll be able to reduce more truck miles and eliminate the use of saltwater disposal wells throughout the state.” As of the beginning of March, the facility was undergoing the last phases of testing required before it becomes fully operational, Schopp said. “The facility is going well,” he said. “We’re still going through some of the commissioning processes. We are processing on a consistent basis, and our hope is that progress continues, and we are getting close to being able to process all of the water that we produce in West Virginia.”

Antero will save a lot of money on frac water by recycling.
