Analysis on the weaponization of Russian gas flows to Europe
While Europe has received something of a reprieve with Russia resuming gas flows
through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline at 40% capacity levels, we believe that further
cuts are looming and that gas will remain President Putin’s weapon of choice in an
attempt to force Europe to reconsider its support for Ukraine. Putin has already
raised the specter of additional disruptions next week citing potential problems
with a second turbine due to Western sanctions. Moscow has a clear track record of
restricting flows to countries to achieve strategic goals. Administration officials in
Washington and a number of leading Russia experts warn that Putin will likely seek
to keep Europe in a state of perpetual panic by deploying a rolling cut off strategy
to prevent sufficient storage from being built for the remainder of the summer
and that the disruptions will grow more debilitating heading into winter and the
December 5th EU oil embargo start date. Hence, this latest Nord Stream 1 restart
drama may signal just the start of a punishing new phase of energy brinkmanship
by President Putin and cutting off gas flows will likely be deemed an acceptable cost
in his war of choice against the collective West.

IMO Europe has very dumb leaders. They are going to lose the "Sanctions War" with Russia. Lack of space heating fuels will kill thousands and may push millions of Europeans into poverty this coming winter. What they should be doing is working hard on a negotiated deal with Putin. So what if the eastern half of Ukraine goes to Russia? I am sure that most Ukrainians that live there would rather be part of Russia than die.
