I am about half the way through a very interesting book titled "The Cloud", which covers many areas that will be impacted by the massive increase in computing power we are seeing this decade. It is not a "political" book and more of a scientific look at how human creativity and abundant energy (85% from fossil fuels fuels) has increased our standard of living. BTW the Cloud itself is going to create a big increase in energy demand.

I found it interesting that in the book they forecast that EV's will not take over the world's car market, primarily because of the shortage of and high prices of the materials to make them.  EVs don't increase the comfort of travel and they will cost more than ICE cars, so they will not gain market share. Plus, the U.S. electricity grid can't handle a big surge in EVs.

EVs actually increase overall energy demand when you add in the amount of energy it takes to mine the materials to make them and recharge them. Batteries are not a source of energy, they are a consumer of energy.

I highly recommend the book. The team that pulled the information together to write it are super smart.
