Good points, and the banking sector is falling apart. Iran does whatever it wants and the lack of leadership in the USA is starting is killing us. Not much to be optimistic about.

Here’s some kernel of optimism.

Right. We're sending trillions to fuel the green energy transition with nothing to show for it except widespread despair and dissent. Chinese are using our trillions to build coal fired power plants, build up their military, and expand their influence in places we used to dominate.

Ever since the early 70s I’ve been frustrated by this country’s inability to make sensible long term energy and natural resources decisions. The Chinese make plans, we peddle mantras like green, brown, free market, MBA logic.

Meanwhile China signs 30-40 year contracts that simply take resources off the market. What’s left is still called a free market but it isn’t!

China is playing a chess game where we are pawns. Free markets don’t work if the biggest players don’t follow our rules. How many US companies were driven out of their niche because Chinese subsidies insured our companies would go bankrupt in wind, solar, manufacturing, rare earth metals, just about anything you see at Walmart.

This isn’t free market capitalism it’s folly sold to us by the crop of MBAs that thought exporting our jobs and intellectual property to China was a great idea.

What we are left with is an endless cycle of political pissing contests that make any kind of pragmatic planning impossible.

I blame us for this pickle.

I now yield my soap box.
