Ahead of a new round of talks with the United States, Iran has issued a stern warning to Washington, declaring that uranium enrichment and the lifting of sanctions are non-negotiable red lines for Tehran.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently warned in a report that Iran now has the capacity to produce multiple nuclear bombs, and that preliminary testing has already been conducted.
Against the backdrop of mounting tensions, Iran is expected to submit its counterproposal, in which it will reaffirm that its nuclear program is solely for civilian purposes.
“We strongly recommend the American side not to waste this opportunity — it’s in their own interest to take it seriously,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei, according to Mehr News Agency.
One of the key points of contention remains uranium enrichment, which Iran insists must continue, while also condemning the latest U.S. diplomatic proposal for failing to address its demands for sanctions relief.
Donald Trump, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, dismissed Iran’s position, saying the country is trying to get what it cannot have, and added that Tehran will not be allowed to enrich uranium under the terms of any future agreement.
