President Barack Obama on Friday is expected to urge Congress to support a plan calling for a $2 billion trust fund using proceeds from royalties received from oil and gas production in federal waters to pay for research that would reduce the costs of alternative-energy vehicles.
This guy is a spending addict! He also thinks the government can do everything better. We do not need another Federal agency when private business will take care of this if it makes sense.

Of course he doesn't have a clue how to make this work and nor does he understand the magnitude of the problem. Barack Obama is the "Bumper Sticker President". For example, if we devoted 100% of our farmland to growing biofuel feedstock, it would not provide 15% of our transportation fuels. Meanwhile a lot of people will starve and food prices go through the roof. Plus, we have been increasing MPG in our vehicles for decades and our liquid fuel consumption continues to go up. Why? Because the population keeps going up. Stop the madness in Washington!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Creating more federal agencies and throwing away more money will not solve all of our problems. - Dan
LEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- President Barack Obama says the U.S. must shift its cars and trucks entirely off oil to avoid perpetual fluctuations in gas prices.
He says he expects by the middle of the next decade, Americans will only have to fill up their cars half as often.
Obama is calling on Congress to authorize $200 million a year for research into things like electric car batteries and biofuels that can wean automobiles off oil. He's proposing an energy security trust that would use revenues from federal leases on offshore drilling.
Obama says during a visit to the Argonne National Laboratory outside Chicago that American energy provides one of the greatest opportunities for economic growth. He says the U.S. can't miss opportunities while the rest of the world moves forward.
