YFP, the Argentine state-owned oil company, announced the discovery of a shale well in Loma Campana at the Vaca Muerta formation, in the Neuquen province, La Nacion reported, citing YPF CEO Miguel Galuccio.
During an oil-sector event in Buenos Aires, Galuccio said the well, named Loma Campana 992, showed an initial production of 1,630 barrels of oil a day, newspaper reported.
According to the report, the shale well has 5,350 meters of total length, 2,000 meters horizontal and 28 stages of hydraulic stimulation, a record in the local context.
Galuccio also said YPF production in the Vaca Muerta formation was up to 50,000 crude oil and gas barrels a day, a threshold the company had set for this year, the newspaper reported. Almost 10% of YPF's total production derives from Vaca Muerta, the report added, citing Galuccio.
Loma Campana is YPF’s main unconventional field in Vaca Muerta, in partnership withChevron, which has invested about USD 3bn for the delepment of the unconventional formation, as reported.
