EPG Website Issues

Post by dan_s »

The EPG website has been fixed and is now back up again and running. It actually had no viruses or other stuff that could harm your computer. Apparently, whoever did this to us was a prankster. Probably a teenager with no real job and too much time on their hands.

Some of our members are still getting a warning message from Google when they try to access the main EPG website. It is part of their Google Chrome web browser service that checks websites from time-to-time and warns users. The problem is that Google does not take the message down after the website is fixed. We are working on it now. Our web hosting service provider did figure out how they got in and they have changed the password and added some additional security. Of course this costs me time and money.

It is always something when you run a business like this! Last year we had a Russian group that tried to hack our membership data but never got in. All of our membership info is encrypted, so it is safe.

Dan: thanks for getting it cleared up and keeping members updated on the status, and the website security.

Saturday Update: I just talked to our website hosting company. They said the hack job came from somewhere in Europe and they were trying to access files under the Sweet 16 tab. Hell, I would have given them the files! Our team sees no evidence of any malware or vires that could have been transferred to your computers.

Our guys are making some changes and upgrading security to our administrator area (which is how they got in). After today, all should be back to normal.

There may be a lingering issue for any of you that use Google Chrome as your web browser. Once Google labels a website as "dangerous" it can take weeks to get them to approve it again. We are going to contact Google on Monday and see if we can get that issue cleared up.

Any of you the use Explorer should be OK.

Getting "hacked" is no fun! Sorry for any problems this may have caused you.

Dan,
before I sent the email to you, some hip hop music stuff came up when I tried to get to the EnergyProspectus site... a few hours later the google warning started to pop up.

No problems with the Safari browser anymore.

cheers - Laurin

Seems fine today. That big red window is a bit intimidating.

Click on the Home Page tab after you log on. Then click on the link to The View From Houston. It works for me.

Our internet guys are aware of the problem.

yeah, I found it, too. kinda hidden.

for any that are still having problems getting the view from Houston, follow these steps---

1. log in
2. click on "HOME" link at the top--the link beside "Membership"
3. click on "The View from Houston: Issue 97"

"View Full Article" link will not work

"HOME" link on side panel will not get you to the correct home page.
