Insider Selling Accelerates at Northern Oil & Gas.Citi:

By Teresa Rivas
Speaking of energy companies, insiders at Northern Oil & Gas (NOG) have sold nearly $31 million in stock in the past month, culminating in a $21.8 million sale by CEO Michael Lewis on Friday, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, available this morning.

This move, in conjunction with more than 750% appreciation in the company’s stock in the past two years, are part of the the critical thesis of a two-part report published by The Street Sweeper. The second part of the report, published today, brings into question the dubious history of some of the firm’s founding members and tight family connections that are at the heart of the company’s holdings.

Barron’s magazine was previously skeptical of the company’s soaring stock price, given its high valuation despite a relatively short and shaky track record. See Weekday Trader, “A Question of Value,” July 28, 2008.

These people have been completly wrong about NOG over the last 2 years. They questioned its value at 10$ per share with no idea of the land value or production rates.
Dan has their growth predicted based on known information. Is there some problem with the selling by executives?

i don't and haven't liked the fact that they have very few employees and don't operate any plays. riding on the backs of others
would seem like they have no real ownership in what they are doing. i may be all wrong, but it gives me uncomfortable feelings and i will feel better with my money elsewhere.

Dan what do you think of this situation?

Melissa has put out a lot of negative information without discussing NOGs business.

For NOG, or any of the Sweet-16, the best place to find my current opinion is to read what I have to say about them in my regular "Sweet 16 Detailed Update." I look closely at each S-16 stock the weekend before each newsletter and I update the report accordingly. It also contains a table of my Fair Value estimate for each company. Premium Members can access the report under the Sweet 16 tab.

NOTE: April 1 is the last date you can join EPG for $250/year. We are going to launch a new website on April 2 and Premium Membership goes up to $350/year on that date. To join, go to our website (www.energyprospectus.com) and click on the Members tab.

The next EPG luncheon at The HESS Club (5430 Westheimer) is set for March 31. Doors open at 11:00 for networking with the presentation at noon. EPG members can need to register by sending an e-mail to Kim Tran at EnergyProspectus@gmail.com Guests are alwasys welcome but they need to register on-line at the Home Page.

Joseph R. Dancy, Professor at the SMU Dedman School of Law, will be speaking at our luncheon on March 31. He will be discussing the global energy markets, primarily the “astonishing” impact that China’s oil demand growth is having on the oil markets. He will also comment on how the earthquake damage and the rebuilding efforts in Japan and the military strikes against Libya will be affecting the energy markets.

Joe is also the publisher of the LSGI Advisor Report, a monthly newsletter that I have found to be very accurate in forecasting near-term moves in both the energy markets and global food prices.

Over the last decade Joe Dancy has written articles in Barron’s, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, MSN Money, the Dick Davis Digest, Silicon Investor, the Dallas Morning News and a dozen other U.S. newspapers and magazines. He is a regular guest on Jim Puplava’s FSN broadcasts focusing on the energy sector and has discussed commodity market trends on BBC Radio Scotland.

He serve as an advisor to the Michigan Tech Applied Portfolio Management Program, overseeing finance students responsible for managing $1 million of the University’s endowment. Joe also instruct oil & gas and environmental law programs at Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas.

Following Joe will be the Chairman of FX Energy, an active driller in Poland’s Permian Basin. He will be discussing their recent drilling success and how the unrest in North Africa is affecting the European oil & gas markets.
