Working gas in storage was 3,408 Bcf as of Friday, September 15, 2017, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 97 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 136 Bcf less than last year at this time and 67 Bcf above the five-year average of 3,341 Bcf. At 3,408 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.
Hurricane Harvey reduced natural gas exports and Hurricane Irma reduced demand for power generation. Supply/Demand are working back to normal levels, but it will take a few more weeks.
There are 8 weeks remaining in the refill season before the next winter heating season begins. The 5-year average storage level at the beginning of the heating season is 3,877 Bcf.
