Houston Astros = World Champions

Post by dan_s »

I grew up in St. Louis and I've watched a lot of baseball games. The Astros win in Game 5 was the most incredible baseball game that I've ever seen. Game 7 was a thriller because of the tension with each pitch. Charlie Morton is an underrated pitcher. He was key to the Astros' wins in Game 7 against the Yankees and Game 7 against the Dodgers. Key hit of the series was Marwin Gonzalas' home run to tie Game 2 in the 9th inning. Had the Astros lost Game 2, I think the odds of them winning the Series would be less than 10%.

The Dodgers are a great team, but their manager really screwed up on multiple occasions. Darvish is an overrated pitcher who the Astros have faced and beaten many times. Why in the world the Dodgers started him in Game 7 is insane unless the manager bet on the Astros to win the Series.

Susan is a fair weather fan and did not watch an Astros game all season until the playoffs. She was crying when we got the final out. Now she is a hard core fan.

What's great about sports is that the players on both teams will never forget this World Series even if they live to be 100. I was blessed to have played on a undefeated championship highschool football team. I still have fond memories of that year. Plus, it earned me a college scholarship and literally changed my life. I'd probably be a construction worker in St. Louis married to a fat German woman if not for that scholarship. Not that there is anything wrong with construction workers or fat German woman.

We are blessed to have the Astros and an owner that paid up to get Justin Verlander. The Astros are going to be a great team for many years.

And the Texans have a bright future too. The game last Sunday was one all of us in Seattle will remember for a long time. It could have gone either way.

The Texas lost their great quarterback to a knee injury this week in practice, so it is "wait until next year" once again for that team.

I do think the Rockets will have a great season if they can ever get Chris Paul to start playing.
