Over the next ten years some people are forecasting that renewable energy (more than half from hydro and geothermal) will reduce the energy this world gets from oil, gas and coal from 80% to 70% of Earth's primary energy. It will take many $Trillions to make that happen, so I doubt that it will happen, but if it does the amount of fossil fuels needed in the future will still go up because the total amount of energy consumed goes up 2% to 3% each year.
