I am often asked if "Green Hydrogen" will eventually replace oil as a transportation fuel? My answer is "Not this decade and probably not until after 2050", but I could be wrong. This morning Raymond James Energy Stat is on this topic. If you'd like to read the full report, send me an email. dmsteffens@comcast.net

Raymond James:
"The premise of a “hydrogen economy” – a term dating back to pre-2000 – is that hydrogen will eventually displace conventional fuels in a wide range of uses, playing a key role in energy transition. Before any of us book a flight on a hydrogen-powered aircraft, though, let’s ask a basic question: where does the hydrogen come from? As it stands, essentially all of the world’s hydrogen production is derived from natural gas or coal. For hydrogen to make sense from a climate perspective, its own carbon footprint needs to be sharply reduced. This report, co-written by our U.S. and Canadian teams, discusses the supply side of the equation: the shift towards green hydrogen from electrolysis. What has historically been a niche market is about to ramp up in a massive way – creating plenty of opportunities for investors who want to play this theme – reflecting a potent combination of economic and policy drivers. This includes companies on the U.S., Canadian, and (especially) European exchanges."
