been following news in this region for some years concerning oil & gas development

HIllcorp made a large investment in the area in 2017 when they acquired the San Juan basin assets from Conoco Phillips. Hilcorp San Juan, L.P. is a partnership between Hilcorp Energy Company and The Carlyle Group.

The San Juan Basin has been producing for decades. Most areas are depleted and you don't hear much about it. With ngas now over $6 (and likely to go higher) I'm sure that there are some operators making money out there.
