What is a prairie chicken and what does it have to do with oil drilling?
Re: For Cliff- pop up quiz
Had no idea, had to look it up: "The greater prairie chicken or pinnated grouse (Tympanuchus cupido), sometimes called a boomer,[2] is a large bird in the grouse family. This North American species was once abundant, but has become extremely rare and extirpated over much of its range due to habitat loss.[2] Conservation measures are underway to ensure the sustainability of existing small populations. One of the most famous aspects of these creatures is the mating ritual called booming."

The rig crew are allowed to barbecue one after a good week.
Actually, since it's an endangered species, drilling permits are not issued to an oil company.
Apparently , someone determined that this bird is more important than the needs of the human race.
So despite the ranting's of the President, companies are at the whims of local authorities whether they can drill or not.
OXY, pulled out of Colorado and redirected rigs to the Permian since authorities were slow rolling the permits. After 6 months, the permits were issued and the rigs are going back.
There are no problems with windmills chopping up eagles, however. The next step will be to install a fan guard around these things

Fraser, so conservation efforts to save these birds ran OXY out of Colorado? In Austin, Texas we have had worse things with the City Council trying to save a few lizards. Reminds me of the Sierra Club approaching me in the High Desert of California, 29 Palms, telling me "your dirt bike is scaring the sidewinder rattlesnakes." Since there was an abundance, did really see the problem.
