Trump's Tariffs Update - Feb 2

Post by dan_s »

Trump declared an economic emergency in order to place duties of 10% on all imports from China and 25% on imports from Mexico and Canada. Energy imported from Canada, including oil, natural gas and electricity, would be taxed at a 10% rate.

Trump’s order includes a mechanism to escalate the rates charged by the U.S. against retaliation by the other countries, raising the specter of an even more severe economic disruption.

The tariffs will go into effect on Tuesday, setting up a showdown in North America that could potentially sabotage economic growth. A new analysis by the Budget Lab at Yale laid out the possible damage to the U.S. economy, saying the average household would lose the equivalent of $1,170 in income from the taxes. Economic growth would slow and inflation would worsen, and the situation could be even worse with retaliation from other countries.

MY TAKE: Why doesn't the leadership of Canada (whoever that is) meet with Trump to clarify what he wants on border security? That sures seems like it would be a lot cheaper than this nonsense.

The border issues with Mexico is the real problem.

The real question is why Canada and Mexico are so recalcitrant on Trump’s desire for America’s border security and eliminating fentanyl and human trafficking. Cui bono? Perhaps the Chinese are massively subsidizing Mexico’s and Canada’s economy for allowing fentanyl exports into the U.S. as both these countries are getting kickbacks from human trafficking cartels. Through a close friend who works with a huge Chinese exporting conglomerate: The CCP is prepared to bank roll those Chinese companies that will be tariffed over the next four years as they patiently for 2028 where they believe tariffs will end. Perhaps these Marxist regimes in Canada and Mexico know that China will backstop them too. I can’t come to any other conclusion for their stubbornness.

Face it, we are at War with China. If they can "destabilize" the USA by supplying drugs instead of fighting a traditional war with armies why not? The "Opium Wars". Someone likes the money. Trudeau is the Gavin Newsom of Canada.

For decades I have believed that the drug cartels have a lot of our elected officials "on the payroll".

I understand why Mexico wants the drug money to keeping coming as it must be a large percentage of their revenue, but Canada not wanting to work with Trump to shut down drugs and illegals makes no sense to me.
