The Whitecap monthly dividend of C$ 0.608 is very attractive. On an annual basis the dividend equates to C$ 0.73. With the current share price, the monthly dividend is equivalent to a shareholder return of 7.5%. With WTI = $ 65/bbl I believe that the dividend is easily sustainable.

Share buybacks
In 2024 Whitecap bought back shares for C$ 160 M.
Whitecap did not buy back any shares in Q1 2025. However, in May 2025 Whitecap announced that it had received TSX permission to buy over a period of twelve months up to 59.1 M of its shares. Whether this will happen depends on the balance sheet and the oil and gas prices.

Based on the FCF, I do not expect share buybacks in Q2 or Q3. Buybacks at a rate of C$ 50 M however may restart in Q4. This would bring total shareholder returns in 2025 to 8.0%.

Buybacks can continue in 2026 at a rate of C$ 200 M per year for a total shareholder returns in 2026 of > 9%.
If you like high shareholder returns, then Whitecap is a good choice.
