Our MLP Watch List

Post by dan_s »

One of our interns, who has now graduated with an MBA from SMU, is tasked with updating our MLP Watch List every two weeks. I just posted it under (surprisingly) the "MLP" tab. If your focus is on high yield + tax deferred cash flow, this list is a good place to look.

It is a listing of 20 energy sector partnerships and Limited Liability Companies ("LLC") that qualify under the Internal Revenue Code as "Master Limited Partnerships". Their shares or "units" are traded publicly.

We now have 8 upstream (E&P companies) and 12 midstream companies on the Watch List. We screened over 60 MLPs to come up with the list and we still like them all. Upstream companies have more commodity price risk, so they do offer higher yields.

The average annual yield is approximately 6.9%, but three of the upstream companies yield more than 10%.

We are currently taking a hard look at Breitburn Energy Partners (BBEP) for a possible promotion to our High Yield Income Portfolio.
