Crude Oil Imports-Exports into the U.S.

Post by dan_s »

The primary reason that U.S. crude oil inventories increased during the week ending April 6 was because of a spike in Net Imports.

Crude oil imports net of exports went from 5,723,000 barrels per day the previous week to 7,445,000 barrels per day for the week ending April 6. Gross imports were 8,650,000 barrels per day.

There is a steady stream of oil tankers coming into the Gulf of Mexico ports. Weather does have an impact on imports and exports. Changes in imports does not mean there is an increase or decrease of oil coming out of the ground.

Spend some time looking at details of EIA's weekly report here:

The Brent premium to WTI has increase and that difference should increase exports crude oil from the U.S. to European and Asian refiners.
