Natural Gas Market - Growing much faster than the oil market

Post by dan_s »

Demand for U.S. natural gas is growing fast.

Europe's imports of American natural gas are soaring . CNN Business
Europe is making good on a promise to buy much more American natural gas as it seeks to ease transatlantic trade tension and reduce its reliance on Russian energy. The European Union has imported roughly 8 billion cubic meters of liquid natural gas from the United States since July 2018, more than three times the amount purchased in the preceding two years The bloc committed at an energy summit in Brussels on Thursday to further purchases so long as the price is competitive The pledge appears calibrated to appease President Donald Trump, who has applied tariffs to steel and aluminum from the European Union and has threatened new taxes on cars made in the bloc. The bloc touted figures on Thursday showing that cumulative imports since 2016 have jumped up from 3 billion cubic meters at the time of the joint statement to nearly 11 billion cubic meters in April 2019, an increase of 272%.

Gas pipeline needed for affordable housing, trade group says . Crain’s New York Business
The affordable housing industry is begging Gov. Andrew Cuomo not to pass on gas. The New York State Association for Affordable Housing sent a letter Monday calling on the governor to allow the Northeast Supply Enhancement project—also known as the Williams pipeline, for the Oklahoma firm behind the project—which would link the Rockaway Peninsula with Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale deposits via New York Harbor. Cuomo has been criticized by supporters and opponents of the tube for his administration's prolonged deliberations over the permitting process. NYSAFAH, which represents builders of affordable housing, argued that many planned below-market developments depend on the pipeline being built and will otherwise lack a reliable energy source.

Democrats that think blocking natural gas pipelines is good for the environment are idiots. We have friends that live in Central New York that have to burn wood chips for space heating because there is no clean burning natural gas available in their area. In addition to being expensive, burning wood for heat creates much more air pollution. Why do the citizens of NY put up with this stuff?
