Canada down 22 rigs week ending March 5.

Each year the number of rigs drilling in Canada declines sharply from March thru May because of "Spring Breakup". The same happens in North Dakota.

Why? As the ground thaws in the spring it becomes difficult and expensive to move drilling rigs and completion equipment. When I worked at Hess we shutdown most fieldwork in mid-Dec and did not start up again until June.
