Working gas in storage was 3,006 Bcf as of Friday, September 10, 2021, according to EIA estimates.
This represents a net increase of 83 Bcf from the previous week. < A bit larger build than expected. Demand for power generation lower because Hurricane Ida knocked out so much electricity in Louisiana. Also, higher gas prices making some utilities switch from gas to coal.
Stocks were 595 Bcf less than last year at this time and 231 Bcf below the five-year average of 3,237 Bcf.
At 3,006 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range. < Within the lower third.
OCT21 contract down $0.142 to $5.318 at the time of this post.
This is the "Shoulder Season" when we normally get the largest storage builds of the year: The next six weekly 5-year average builds are 81, 68, 79, 81, 69, 63
The last week of October is usually when we see space heating demand pick and draws from storage begin mid-November.
