Truck Driver Shortage setting up surge in demand for diesel

As I pointed out on my January 16th podcast, distillate inventories (diesel and home heating oil) in the U.S. are 15% BELOW the 5-year average.

If Team Biden does not move aggressively to get more truckers back on the road soon the U.S. supply chain issues will get worse. This could lead to shortages of food and other products that support our high standard of living. Assuming Team Biden wakes up to how serious the problem is, there is going to be a surge in demand for diesel.

Adding to the problem is that the ultra-light oil coming from shale wells cannot be used to make diesel. Imports of heavy oil from Canada and OPEC+ must increase. Solving the problem in Venezuela should be a top priority for the U.S., but that is clearly above the abilities of Team Biden. Old Joe probably can't find Venezuela on a map.

Given this, the higher decline rates of shale, and the tighter WCS spread, don't Canadian producers present a better value right now vs US operators ?
