U.S. President issues almost 2,500 clemency orders for drug-related sentences
On Friday, United States President Joe Biden issued his final clemency action with almost 2,500 commutations for individuals sentenced for non-violent drug possession and trafficking. The outgoing president remarked that his administration had set a record for the most clemency actions related to the failed U.S. War on Drugs, which he fully supported through his drafting of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which created disproportionately long sentences for drug offenders, particularly minorities arrested for crack possession and trafficking.
I find it hard to believe that the majority of Americans are OK with this.
