As he points out, Trump putting tariffs on Canadian heavy oil coming into the U.S. makes no sense because there is no easy substitute for the heavy oil we must have from Canada. A 25% tariff on Canadian oil would increase U.S. diesel prices by 25% and increase inflation.

Chuck, thanks for the post from Sankey. Unfortunately, Trump has learned the "hammer" and everything now looks like a nail. Agree with Dan and Sankey that increases in diesel would fuel inflation in the thru the supply chain.

I am taking the view of Trump to trust but verify. He doesn’t always say what he means but the world seems to be covered with thin ice. If he drops the hammer in the wrong place at the wrong time who knows what kind of economic spiral we will end up in. What is most clear is that he is starting in a place that couldn’t be more screwed up. I am hoping his leadership and momentum will inspire the greatness in America that has been exhibited by its citizens in the past to overcome challenges.
