EIA Natural Gas Storage Report - March 27

Post by dan_s »

Working gas in storage was 1,744 Bcf as of Friday, March 21, 2025, according to EIA estimates.
This represents a net increase of 37 Bcf from the previous week.
Stocks were 557 Bcf less than last year at this time and 122 Bcf below the five-year average of 1,866 Bcf.
At 1,744 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.

Refills have started early this year. Utilities must be taking physical deliveries and pumping the gas into storage earlier than normal to avoid paying much higher gas prices later this year.

Forecast for the week ending March 28 is a build of 14 Bcf.

Large builds in April are normal since demand for space heating declines rapidly and power generation demand for AC does not pick up until May. Hot summers across the Southern U.S. create a lot of power demand and LNG exports will remain near capacity all year.
