Bullish on the Utica Shale

I believe the Utica Shale production is going to ramp up sharply this summer and the play will get a lot more press. The Utica Shale is going to be a very important economic boom for Ohio, a state that really needs the revenues. My top picks in the play are Gulfport Energy (GPOR) and MarkWest (MWE). MWE continues to gain traction in the Utica. MarkWest Utica EMG entered into definitive agreements with producer PDCE to provide natural gas gathering, processing, NGL fractionation and marketing services in the Utica Shale, with initial gathering and processing services in Guernsey County, OH expected to begin by the end of 2Q 2013. This marks the fourth long-term, fee-based agreement that the JV has entered into with a major producer in southern portion of the play over the past nine months (Gulfport Energy, Antero Resources, Rex Energy, and PDC Energy).
