We are definitely getting to the point in the cycle when the BIG FISH start swallowing up the LITTLE FISH. As I have said a hundred times here, oil prices are tracking very close to what happened during the 2008-2009 cycle. In the 3rd quarter of 2009 we saw a lot of mergers. I was part of a Business Development Team at Hess Corp. that tracked over 50 public companies for possible takeover. There are BD teams at all of the large-caps that have lists of companies they would like to acquire. My bet is that there are over a dozen large takeovers in the works today.
Many of our Sweet 16 and Small-Cap Growth Portfolio companies are PRIME TAKEOVER TARGETS. Several are mentioned in the article above.
They are attractive to larger companies that have access to capital and much lower cost of capital. This is a chance for the larger companies to get big blocks of acreage in the shale plays at a very cheap price.
