Natural Gas exports to Mexico

Post by dan_s »

The most current data that I can find shows that natural gas being exported from Texas to Mexico via pipeline was 4.0 Bcf per day in February and it is increasing. Mexico has expanded the number of natural gas burning power plants and they are wanting more and more gas from the U.S. Exports to Mexico are expected to increase to 7.0 Bcf per day by 2020.

LNG exports are also increasing and some of them are going to Mexico. Total exports of U.S. natural gas are now expected to exceed 11.0 Bcf per day by 2020 and keep increasing from there.

I pointed out at our luncheon in Dallas last week that most of the world does not enjoy the steady supply of electricity that we have in the U.S. Gas fired power plants are the quickest way to meet global demand. The problem is that these plants burn a lot of gas and most areas of the world do not have steady supply. Mexico is aggressively dealing with the problem.

Increasing exports of natural gas should help stabilize our gas prices in the U.S..
